Girls Friday

Emily and I had a lovely mommy-daughter day. We met some friends at Reiman Gardens this morning. The gardens had free admission, we helped them celebrate season opening and Arbor Day. The Butterfly Garden was a big hit with Emily. We saw lots of butterflies and all kinds of flowers. Did you know butterflies like to drink Gatorade? After we were done touring the garden the two of us went to lunch at Panera. We shared soup and 1/2 sandwich platter, meaning she ate the soup and I had the sandwich. I wonder how much longer we will be able to get away with that! The gardens made for a fun day, we might have to become supporting members or get a family membership.

Hopefully the first of a season filled with Emily's help in the yard...

Emily hugs

Emily hugs are one of the best things in this world. This is Emily giving Logan a hug. We were getting ready to leave his 2nd birthday party.
Emily has begun helping me count. This is how it normally goes...
Mommy: 1
Emily: 2
Mommy: 3
Emily: 4
Mommy:5
She also loves saying the ABC's, she can start the alphabet, and then it gets pretty jumbled. She does have the tune to the song down pretty well. She also loves repeating the letters after you say them out loud.
Our perfect sleeper is giving us some problems in the last few weeks. Bed time has been a struggle. Instead of quietly lying down with her blanket, Emily screams for 30 minutes. She will hop up and then slam her legs through the rungs of her crib and sit there with her legs dangling until we come fix it or she falls asleep. If we do come in to lay her down she will just repeat the process. I have gotten "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" back off the bookshelf.

VEISHEA

We had a lovely cold, rainy, 1/2 inch of snow on the ground VEISHEA. We had a couple of house guests for the weekend too, good thing they were prepared for Iowa. Robert once again marched with the Alumni Groove Drumline. I wanted to take Em to see him play, luckily April came up for the day to help me keep Emily warm. We watched the parade, and got to see Robert drum in a show on central campus near Cy's Big Top. It sure was fun!

Emily is sporting a Cy tatoo and a balloon!

Robert is second from the right, standing next to Scott. The Varsity line is in the gray sweatshirts. The Alumni had nifty t-shirts to wear, but after waking up to snow and 30 degree weather they opted for coats and hats!

new tooth

We went home to see my dad for his birthday on Sunday. Emily was sick, she wanted her "banke" and "ba ba" all the time, which we usually oblige when she needs comfort. Grandma Barb surprised Emily with a new puppy. It is the cutest stuffed puppy ever, picture Bo, but at 6 weeks old. She has not gone a moment without "puppy" since. It seems Em is developing an entourage... ba ba, banke, Elle, and puppy are all needed when comfort comes calling. Em has gotten over her cough but has broken her first 2 year molar, upper left "secondary molar", the average eruption time is 25-33 months, which seems about right for Em since she has gotten all of her teeth early. She has had all 16 teeth, b-i and l-s since 12 months. Wonder if she be needing braces by 4 years?

Swinging

We made a trip to the park on Saturday. It was such a beautiful day and we spent much of it outside even though Emily wasn't feeling the best. She has been requesting the "pak" -park and "swin" -swing constantly ever since. If only it would stop raining and get above 50 degrees!

Where I was...last week

I had a wild idea a week ago to start painting the guest bedroom, my so called Quilt room. I thought I could do it without buying any paint, using up some of the old stuff in the basement. Well that is how the idea started... I was cleaning up the paint situation in the basement, the previous owners left us with 15 or so gallons of mostly full paint. I thought maybe I can use these instead of throw them out. Turned out none of those colors worked for me so I am going to freecycle paint soon. I only had to buy one 3/4 nap roller and a can of cocconut cream paint, which I love on the walls. This room gets Southern and Eastern exposure, lots of sun all day. I painted the ceiling, walls, and trim during naps and after Em went to bed. You might say, curtains would be nice, I think so too. Look at my poor situation now.

Seems my trusty Singer's bobbin case won't turn, need help!
