Ames High Homecoming Parade

It was windy
Waiting with anticipation

The theme for Homecoming this year was Wild West. I have always intended to make it to the parade, but have missed all four since we moved back including the one Robert was helping with the HS drumline!
Emily and I went Monday. It is a very short parade, consisting of the homecoming court, fall sport teams and lots of candy!

Sunday

Isn't the weather just gorgeous. I wonder if this is our makeup for a crappy weather May? We went up to the park and walked around the lake. Emily insisted on pulling the wagon the first 1/2 mile. We were cruising so slow. My husband has such patience (he hates even walking slow), but loves doing it with the family. Several 60+ year olds limped by us, but we had fun. She let me drive going down the slopes, I worry the wagon will jump up and catch her feet. Emily finally hopped in the last 1/4 mile, but only to keep Dallas company, not because she was tired, although she was pretty upset there was no snack.

my well babes

On Tuesday we spent a couple of hours in the morning at the Dr. getting Dallas's 9 month and Emily's 3 year well visit in the books. It takes a little longer at three as Emily had her hearing and vision tested. They both received the flu vaccine, Em got the mist and Dallas had a shot, in which he will have to get a booster in a month. Things went really well.
We discussed having Dallas sleep through the night. Emily's pooping issues and both of there eating habits. The dentist discovered Em's jaw doesn't quite line up so we mentioned that as well as we are just going to watch it for another 6 months.

Last night since I new Dallas was healthy I encouraged him to try to sleep through his normal " I want to eat at 1 or 2 or 3 am wakings). He went to bed at 6:00 pm, woke at 9:30, I nursed him, put him back down. He woke again at 2:00, and for the next hour and 30 minutes I went to him about every 10-15 minutes and patted him and said nite, nite. He succumbed finally and slept until 6:00, I rushed to him so fast. He wakes happy and doesn't hold it against me for letting him cry/fuss but boy do I feel it! Let's see how tonight goes...

Dallas weighs 20lb 15 oz, is 28.5" inches long
Emily weighs 31lb is 37" inches long

I think you will find Dallas's discovery today speaks for itself

Here are some teaser pictures from our trip, I hope to blog a little bit more in detail about it soon. I took the time to caption most of them. Enjoy

Ugly door no more!

My husband and my brother labored on Labor Day. I believe their little 5 hour project is the most dramatic project we have done to the house.

Can you guess where we have been...

Madrid Car show

We went to the Madrid Car show on Sunday, Robert decided to enter the Chevelle into the show, so we parked with everyone in our class "SS". There were over 300 cars on display, all along Madrid's cutesy downtown. We didn't get any pictures of Dallas, although he was along as well. He was really sick most of the day, and slept on me like a newborn (like all day!). I was getting pretty worried since he was pretty lethargic and not eating well either, but we were just at the Dr. on Friday as he was well enough not to have an ear infection.
He has mostly snapped back to himself, crawling and laughing at Emily. He is still sleeping a lot, and is starting to eat better.
It was a town wide Labor Day festival, besides the car show there was a kids carnival area and lots of food booths, bands and firemen contests. Emily was loving watching this "grandpa" give rides in his modified lawnmower-turned train locomotive. He had made several "cars" out of oil drums to give kiddos rides. Emily wanted to go, until we strapped her in, we assured her that mom would run along side. I did until, I lost them when they crossed the street, she noticed and had a pretty serious, I am not having fun, but not quite scared face! I think she would do it again.

my revelation

I love staying home. That being said I completely under appreciated the fact that someone else cleaned up after 2 meals and snacks while Emily learned to eat. My boy can eat, and he doesn't mind getting a little messy.
I know this would be the perfect spot for "that" picture, the one where Dallas is covered in three different colors of food puree. I think I have him wiped clean, pick him out of the high chair and then 10 peas, 22 cheerios drop from his butt and knows where else. Then I notice a banana a slice stuck to his thigh (I didn't serve him banana's this meal). The tray is full of food in all of its little crevices, Bo is just waiting, parked under the chair, waiting hopefully for the day Dallas drops steak. It seems each meal lately needs to end with a bath. And yeah I don't have a picture. My hands were too goop to get it out of the case, and it would end up covered in prunes. Maybe tomorrow!
