Tooth #9

Tooth #9 came out an hour ago during a wrestling session with Dallas.  There was a lot less drama associated with this loss.  She blames Dallas for it falling out.  I did not realize it was "that" wiggly.  I guess we'll wait for number ten, the other part of the bottom eye tooth set.

Tooth #8

Emily's eigth tooth fell out during lunch, her first bite into a mini pizza we made.  We found it among some cheese on her plate.  I think she is really worried about swallowing teeth.  I had to go through the partially chewed contents of her mouth for her!

Father - Daughter night

Noelle gets in a picture but will wait until next year to make her debut at the dance

Emily and daddy all ready for the dancing and sugar.  This years theme was "Back to the Hop"  I repurposed an existing outfit for her.  Adding a pink poodle to a skirt with a black lace overlay.  I curled Emily's hair for the first time.  She looks quite stunning with curly hair, each curl popped out with a different hue of red and shine.  We also did hot pink polish with a glitter layer on top for her nails.  Hope they have fun, Rob will have his hands full next year.

Fehling Christmas

This is her look, head down, eyes up, sort of glowering at you
Dallas fever finally broke last night.  Rob was at his class and he said they prayed for him!  He went 38 hours with a fever between 104.6 and 101.2.   I now also know the hospitalization requirements for breath per minute for a 2-5 year old, we kept on top of the breathing treatments and barely kept us out of there.  I still want to buy a pulse-ox meter for home use.
 Isn't this adorable
Dallas has not taken a nap in a couple of months, I am doing my best to still enforce a private quiet time for him.  He still does need a nap or some down time.  The proof is everytime we put him someplace warm he can't move from he falls asleep.  Like every van ride that occurs anytime in the afternoon.
fell asleep in the van, carried him inside, he crawled on the chair and slept more
fell asleep waiting to pick up Emily
fell asleep in the car, carried him upstairs, he left his bed for the hallway
playing a game she made our of her Highlight Magazine
 Dance

My Valenine brought me 14 white tulips.  I love him.  Now if only my little mr. valentine would give me what I really want, for him to nap, and obey.

Piano Practice -a-thon

Hey all.  For those who want to still send a check, there is still time... Emily practiced 95 minutes.  I think we would like to have the money/checks turned in by the 27th.

Happy Valentine's Day

I hope you all have someone to love today.  Rob and I are celebrating our golden Valentine.  We have been together 14 years on the 14th!  I think we are doing an early-bird dinner at Hickory Park.  My stomache is still taking it easy after having the flu Monday, nothing like a 13 hour sleep to make you feel better.
The Mr. got some chocolates for the kiddos and us, and Emily decorated the place.

My week and why my husband's awesome

I have started writing this post several times, and can't quite get it right.  I don't want to complain on here, tell everyone how awfully human and crazy my week is/was.  I have so much more than most of the world has, and I know God won't give me more than I can handle.  These crisis are created about me, by me, for me, when I should be living this life for Jesus and stop being all consumed with "ME".   Then maybe he would give me a little something back to sweetly nutrure my husband and kids.

This week without too much detail... Dallas only wants to poop in a diaper, although he can and does in the potty; I have been getting up at 4:53 am to workout for five weeks now and have done nothing but gain weight; Rob and I drift in and out of the house, he is tired, I am tired; I am trying to correct a snarky attitude in one kid; one kid has an ear infection that causes crying all day, even when on drugs... there is much more that I could complain about this week, plus all the normal stuff, but it was all about me and not really important

Tonight Rob is taking me on a date, courtesy of my sweet sister Lynne.  I don't know what Rob bribed her with to babysit on such short notice, but I am not going to ask.  I love that he misses me, that he knows me enough that I need this, that he planned the date, that he arranged the sitter (my fav. part really) and that I will get to see him, talk to him and hold his hand!

Piano Practice -a-thon

I am going to use the blog to solicate on behalf of my daughter, and I am not selling GS cookies.

The piano studio Emily attends is having a Valentine Week practice - a -thon fundraiser for a Friendship Ark home in Ames.  The studio is hoping to raise enough funds to finish a basement area into a rec/family room for the adult residents to use.

If you would like to help, you can choose to sponser Emily per minute practiced or donate a dollar amount.  She averages 100 minutes a week.  We can also collect checks made directly to Friendship Ark if you would like that for your taxes.

I will attached the note from the Studio.  Emily's week will be Feb 6 - Feb 13

Background: Each year, our Sibbel Studio Valentine’s Week Practice-athon raises money for organizations and individuals in need:
•Three years ago, we raised $3,570.10 to purchase wheelchairs and other equipment for individuals supported by Krysilis of Nevada, IA.
•Two years ago, we donated $3,183.78 to Mainstream Living, Inc. of Ames, IA, to purchase a portable track lift and other essential equipment for a bedridden young man in their care.
•Last year, we contributed $6,243.40 to Jason’s Friends Foundation of Wyoming to assist the family of Chase Chesbro, a then-12-year-old boy with terminal leukemia. Chase is still alive and thriving, by the way. His family considers his healing a miracle, since he has no sign of cancer at this time, and the doctors say he has lived more than a year longer than anyone else with his diagnosis.

This year, our funds will go to Friendship Ark Homes of Ames.

Friendship Ark, Inc., is a private, nonprofit organization established to provide residential and community support of persons with intellectual disabilities in Central Iowa. Its mission is to provide homes for persons with intellectual disabilities that celebrate their uniqueness and help them reach their fullest physical, emotional and spiritual potential through nurturing love and respect within a faith community. For more information and pictures, go to
www.friendshipark.org.

With your help, I hope to raise $3,000.00 to help turn 900 square feet of basement area in Friendship Ark’s new California Home into an activity and recreational area and meeting rooms. A full 100% of your tax deductible gifts through our Sibbel Studio Valentine’s Week Practice-athon will be used to install electrical wiring and finish the walls in this area. This project will benefit not only the residents at 1305 California Avenue in Ames, but also the entire Friendship Ark community, since residents and staff from other homes will gather there for meetings, crafts, recreation, and fellowship. Mary Beth Oostenbrug, Executive Director of Friendship Ark Homes, hopes to use our pledge to gain grant money to reach the $8.500.00 needed to install carpet and a ceiling in order to finish the whole basement area.

Plan: During the next two-to-three weeks, students will ask relatives, friends, neighbors, or even total strangers to sponsor you for Valentine’s Week, February 7-14, (or any seven-day time period from February 1-14, if that is better for your schedule) when you will donate your practice time on piano or guitar AND any other instrument you’re studying to the California House Project. (Hint: Grandparents are AWESOME sponsors for this kind of event.) Your sponsors may choose to donate a specified amount for each minute you practice (like 5 or 10 cents per minute), or a pre-determined amount (like $1.00 or $5.00). Your sponsors may write tax-deductible checks directly to Friendship Ark Homes or give you cash donations, for which your parents may write a tax-deductible check. During the week after Valentine’s Day, you’ll bring me the contributions, and I’ll record the amount that you collected and your total minutes practiced on all instruments. At the Winter Recitals on Sunday, March 4, I’ll announce the total amount contributed and present the checks to a Friendship Ark Homes representative. I’ll also announce the total number of minutes practiced by all my students, and I’ll present award certificates to 1) the student who collects the most money, 2) the student who has the most sponsors, 3) and the student who practices the most minutes during Valentine’s Week.

Goal: My goal is to have each of my 96 students donate practice time during Valentine’s Week, and to bring me all money collected by February 19. If each student averages only $30.00 in contributions, the total will be $2,880.00, which will nearly reach our goal. Even if we don’t collect the full amount, offering up the time we practice for the needs of others benefits them and helps us care about them. My overall goal is to teach care and compassion for those in need through a fun, productive group activity.
