Life around the Kibbe home

Life has been flying by and I am sitting here procrastinating, I love blogging when I should be doing something else.  In this case, preparing to tutor at Classical Conversations in the morning.  So what better time to update you on things around here.

Robert and the girls are off at the Father-Daughter Dance our church hosts every year.  Dallas is not feeling the greatest so he decided Jimmy Johns at home and watching  Sharkboy and Lava Girl would make his night with me extra special.  He is really into the movie an completely ignoring me, so I might have to reschedule a date with him at a later time outside of the house.  The movie is not great...

I started off the year trying to eat well, ditch sugar with a couple of good girlfriends and try to be a bit heathier.  I did well for 3 weeks.  My weight never changes much and I also never have an aha moment of "man I feel good w/out sugar" so I think it is hard for me to stick to it.  I waver between two extremes, you only live once/God made this delicious sourdough bread and butter for a reason to food is fuel, eat to fuel your body.
But the last couple days I have been eating a bit better again. Robert also feels like eating better when coming home from a trip, he had been in Orlando the past week, and eating on the road gets old.  So today I meal prepped protien for the week.  I have no problem eating the same thing over and over, as long as I have a little hot sauce and avocado.  Robert will eat whatever I pack him, but I know he perfers beef over chicken.  I'll see if I can remember to report back on our progress.  I keep things simple and mostly use frozen veggies as a side to our meat.

School is going well.  I guess it is a well known statistic that everyone who homeschools wants to quit in February.  I get why all the school open houses and sign-ups happen in February!  Dallas is reading better all the time, he still does not grab a book to pass the time. Emily loathes long division, but who likes it?  Perfectly normal.  Noelle is learning to tie her shoes and to braid, still working on sounding out words, she doesn't get as much one on one time as I had hoped.  They all like participating in the enrichment classes on top of Classical Conversations.  They all take PE, Emily has been taking Art all year long, and each quarter she changes her other class, so far this year she has taken Spanish, Pinball design, and Fun and Games (she learned to play Spoons and Kings Corner) Dallas and Noelle go to a class called K1, which is very similar to two hours spent in Kindy or 1st Grade.  This year they have covered weather, telling time, our solar system, healthy body, and eating/food pyramid.  They always  get to have recess, do a craft, listen to book, and they get a quarter if they have lost a tooth!

Robert is working hard.  He was away for work in Orlando this past week, the first out of state travel this year.  He is headed to the Pittsburt area for a bit this week.  He does a great job of juggling his couple of buisness' and responsibilites.  He is trying our a new podcast this year where he and a buddy break down episodes of Dukes of Hazzard, The first couple of shows have gone well so they are hoping to make it a regular thing.

We have set some lofty goals for 2016 and lots of them can be achieved.  This will be year 15 to our marriage, yipee! Time to decide how to celebrate that milestone.  Who wants to watch my kids if I can book a getaway?

We pulled the bikes out of the basement Friday while playing in the nice weather.  And by that I mean, the kids begged me to bring them up, I didn't want the hassel with Robert being gone, but they won, and enjoyed it to boot!  Now the truck is parked on the street since I have been two lazy to take them back down, guess we will wait for the weather to turn again.  It is Iowa, so I know we will have several more snow storms.

Pancake, peanut butter, pancake, jelly, pancake, maple syrup, pancake

Our survival cupboard, Trader Joes plantain chips for me, holiday mint M&M's for me

My morning beverages, green shake and coffee with coconut cream
She taught me to play Kings Corner on a coffee date, she orders "hot ice cream" or a Vanilla Steamer to the Starbucks folks.  I got the Flat White with coconut milk.

We visited the Science center with the Ames Homeschool group
This is the "orange" area of the childrens area a the library.   I caught Dallas reading a Geronimo Stilton
We watched Audry for a day, the kids and I loved it

Trying to take pictures of the robins that showed up at our house January 15th
Robert got me this sweet puzzle for Christmas

We celebrated the New Year with some great friends, moscow mules, crab legs and poppers.  Also, don't give 20 poppers to kids that have never pulled a party popper, or at least take time to instruct them to point them away from their face.  And we all stayed up past midnight.
Dallas and Robert put together his first model.  We gave this to him for his birthday.
Dallas made me this Mom trophy, he said I could keep it forever or until he needs the big blue peice to build somthing else.
Update, I still have the trophy, but the blue piece is now a green pice.
