in my rear veiw mirror

We have one of those mirrors; aka huge blind spot creator, to look in on Dallas since his seat rear faces. This is the sight I see almost every trip, along with Emily commentating, "mommy, Dallas is eating his sock."

Teething Biscuits

Can you even see the biscuit in between those paws, he is hiding it from me, like I want to touch that goey thing!
Post biscuit (and he only sucked on 1/8 of it!)

Tonight was Dallas's first go at a teething biscuit. I went with mothers instinct here, the Ped said to hold off on Cheerios's and such until eight or nine months, but he seems so hungry and eager at dinner. He does not have the pincer grip yet to work cheerios, he tries his hardest to pick up little pieces of fruit off his tray, but he just cannot do it yet. He loves to eat them if you put them in his mouth.
I love these biscuits. I used to buy them for Emily. I believe they come in one other flavor as well, I got them at Wheatsfield, the co-op in town. They run about $2.30 for a pack of twelve. I keep them in the freezer, and re-freeze the portion that is gnawed on for another snack.

Emily is three!

We had a busy weekend, we celebrated with our small group from church and family on Sat., Robert worked Sunday so he could have Monday off to be with Em on her birthday. We had a great time, went to the park, went to the grocery store for the first time (all four of us), went swimming and went to Hickory Park for dinner. And guess who was sitting at the booth across from us, my favorite Midwife, the one who delivered Emily. It was eerie, they sang to Em at her exact birth time and with the midwife looking on!
Special thanks to Sarah, who took all the awesome pictures, a great friend that understands being camera free to take it all in!

Storytime at the Library bus

Dallas holding the tape for Emily
Taping on the streamers

During the summer and the summer reading program, they have outdoor story time while the bus is at St. Cecila's church. We usually go if the kiddo's are up and done napping by 3:00 (start time).

Today, story time was about dancing, we danced like a dinosaur, did the chicken dance, read books about Dinosaur's dancing in a sock hop, books about wiggling, and books about twirling. The craft was make your own dance streamer.Twirling with the finished product

Ready for the gym
Dallas is ready too

It was a tad chilly this morning, so Em opted for capri pants, which she calls her gym pants, and I put a hoodie on Dallas and then off to the gym we went.

Emily had her purse (complete with tinker bell cell phone), teddy bear and blanket. She always wants to take things to the gym, we pile them into the car and then when we arrive I remind her that there are other kids in the nursery and babies and that if she brings her stuff inside she will have to share. She always opts to leave them in the car. This morning, I was putting her in her car seat, and the following ensued...
Em "mom, can you hand me my purse, my phone is ringing"
Me "ok", I finish up, hand her the purse and get into the drivers seat
Em "Hello, ok, E - M - I - L - Y (spelling her name), yes on Johnson St." " ok, bye"

I wonder was she ordering a pizza, she knows how to spell her name and her address, so that wasn't surprising, but the conversation of using them on the phone was hilarious.

my atypical Tuesday

Today we ventured to SuperTarget in Ankeny to pick up Dallas' 6 month pictures and have Emily photographed for her 3 year photos. The portrait studio does a really good job, they have tons of coupons, and I usually show great restraint when going so I spend on average $30. At age three I noticed that Emily is able to take direction really well. She did so many fun poses!

After our Ankeny stop I thought I would push my luck and run to Merle Hay since I had a return to do at Old Navy and they also have a Zales (my wedding ring is from Zales), I haven't worn my ring in months because I though my setting was loose and I didn't want to lose my diamond some where. I love my four prong setting but it is not as strong as a six set, I have had the prongs tightened at least three times, I usually trust my instinct that it is loose. The sales associate said it looked fine, yeah!!!
Things were still going really well with the kiddo's, so we then traveled on to Babies R' Us, I finally spent some GC's that Dallas had gotten at birth. There was a Carter's sale going and all the summer stuff was clearanced, we came home with a load of stuff.
I was super tempted to continue on to Chipotle, I heart Chipotle, if only they had a drive thru. I just couldn't bear waking Dallas up one more time (he fell asleep each time we returned to the car), dragging them into ValleyWest during lunch seemed like pushing my luck. I am still missing my burrito.
Robert and my brother are hitting the TC's this weekend perhaps I can convince them to bring me a tasty 1 lb, foil wrapped goodness.

Tomorrow, more of the same?

Emily's birthday wish list

Several people have been asking what Em would like for her birthday, mostly the grandparents. If you ask her, her standard answer is "car". Today I dragged a little bit more out of her, she said "a red car, with pink dots, a real one". Well I guess I hope she gets it, I would love to drive a beauty like that!

I guess I keep her a little to sheltered, I am not sure she even knows that toy isles exist at Target or Walmart, and since we DVR everything around her she never sees commercials.

Here are my suggestions... as always though we have enough toys already so gifts are not required or expected.

$$$ for 529 account (they have initiated Ugift so you can donate directly, but we haven't set that up yet)
Books
I State logo gear in size 4T (T-galaxy has a Cardinal colored hoodie that she wants)
Doll, I like this one
Accessories for dolls, stroller, highchair, clothes, cloth diapers (she is really into dressing the doll and likes to change diapers, anything that would go on easily)
Sand box 5’x5’ with cover for the backyard
Art and craft supplies
Duplo Lego's
Pajama’s summer and winter 3T
Clothes 3T
CandyLand
Very Hungary Caterpillar Game

She likes to read, color, draw, play dough, pack things in her purses, twirl, puzzles, games, brush hair and put "ponies in", change and dress her doll and teddy.
I think she would enjoy a wagon and a trike too. She likes Dora and we are on the cusp of the Princess stage. We have also been thinking of doing a tumbling or dance class this fall, so a session or scholarship would be a good gift.

Anyone seen our camera?

I can't seem to find the camera, not sure when I last saw it either.
Here is a picture from a couple weeks back. Grilled pizza. We love pizza, Emily requests to eat it daily. This pizza was and end of the month/budget use what is in the house creation. I use this for my dough recipe. Heat grill to 400 F. To grill the pizza, I clean the grill well, ie scrape all of the little bits from the surface from the last time we grilled. I rub an onion half over top of the grate ( I heard somewhere that it will help the dough from sticking.) I have the pizza all shaped, on a flat pan and then slide it onto the grill. I don't use a pan underneath. Let the pizza crust cook for 4-5 minutes, with the lid closed and then flip it over and add all of your ingredients. It is best to have all of them ready, outside next to your grill. I usually take a cookie sheet and have everything ready in bowls to quickly add. Once your crust is topped close your grill lid and cook another 5 minutes or so.
The above pizza has tomato sauce that I spiced up with some garlic salt and Italian seasoning, browned hamburger meat with onion and Monterrey jack cheese, not exactly our ideal pizza but like I said we were using up stuff from the pantry!

Holiday weekend

I hope all have a safe and fun Fourth of July. I am looking forward to our plans, and the weather! We are going to go to see Yankee Doodle Pops, Good Guys Car show, hit a parade or two and of course fireworks!
I am hoping the kids will enjoy all the festivities. Dallas is starting to feel a little better today. He has another ear infection. I took him in since he was getting a little wheezy again, and he has had a runny nose for two plus weeks, sometimes looking infected, sometimes not. I thought he might have an another infection and wanted it to get cleared up before the holiday. He had a huge morning nap today, so I know he must be recouping.

I made some of Martha's Rocky Ledge Birthday bars to share at our various picnics, here's hoping we don't eat them all before leaving the house.

And of course since we were going to spend some time tooling around in the Chevelle this weekend it decided to act like a 45 year old Hot Rod and break or burn up something, for specifics ask Rob, but he has been in the garage for several hours, minus a couple of trips to the auto parts store, and phones calls to his Dad who is the electrical wiring expert when it comes to the Chevelle
